Windows Vista will have a major impact on the personal computing experience of millions of users worldwide during the coming years, but that doesn't mean Microsoft's latest operating system is a killer product, nor something you necessarily need or want.
Wired News recently obtained a copy of the final RTM, or Release to Manufacturing, build of Windows Vista Ultimate from Microsoft. This edition of the operating system is the most powerful and advanced of the four editions Microsoft will make widely available Jan. 30, 2007.

#25, they are all PC3200, the actual matched pair are together, and the system is actually running in dual channel mode.
No way am I buying a thumbdrive for Vista.
7200RPM SATA drive.

#24 well as someone in the beta program myself there was a small amount of people who had the same problems as you, thankfully I'm not one of them.
Also you should remember that as someone who isn't the biggest fan of Microsoft - even I say it works and runs faster!! You can claim BS all you like, but if thats the case I'll claim BS about you memory moans as you should really know better about how Vista does memory management when lots is used up.
Anyone expecting an new OS 5 years after the last one should really expect more memory usage for a start off anyway. But from my machine with 2gb RAM and from using both XP and Vista on it, Vista runs faster, I guess I could claim BS for anyone who says otherwise, but I'm not that narrowminded to think that no one else could have problems, yet not everyone is.

#26 - readyboost makes quite a difference on lower specced machines so its worth having if you can . Anything 2GB or below and it sprints.
Really don't know what the actually problems you are having are without seeing the machine. The only time mine is ever slow is the first 5 minutes after a restart when superfetch and indexing go to work making sure everything else loads fast from then onwards.
Also are you sure you are running in full dual channel mode, some boards with 3 sticks in will run the Pair in dual channel and the single stick in single mode, thus problems occur.
Doubt memory speed will cause most of the problems you have anyway as the 3 machines here have different memory speeds from DDR400 to DDR2 800 which I'm using now and they all run well.

#24 "Absolutely insane the number of people on here that are absolutely one-sided."
Wow.. you finally see it too! And it only took a single comment about Microsoft's precious baby to do it. The horde plowed on completely forgetting that, well, you are pretty much a MS fan boy :) I don't meant that in a negative way that time, I'm still surprised that everyone has jumped all over you so quickly.
Unlike you I'm not a beta tester but I have a MSDN account through work so I've loaded it up on a 3Ghz, 1 GB Corsair 3200 machine and I have to agree, whether it's meant to be that way or not, it's definitely not as snappy as a newly installed XP. To defend it slightly it is doing a lot more UI wise but still, we're talking about the core here.

Byron, POST says I am running in Dual Channel. But yeah, I have no idea why Asus made a dual channel board with only 3 slots.

I will give you my experience. I had tried the RC's just to play around with them and found them sluggish to use (to be expected). About three weeks ago I did the install to the RTM on a second drive (keeping my XP drive ready to switch back to). I have been using it for three weeks straight and have found no need to go back. My machine is pretty beefy ( x6800, 2GB RAM, 7950GTX, 150GB WD Raptor) and Vista runs way better on my system then XP. Programs are faster to open and more responsive in use. I have also found it extremely stable in use.
I only had one program that wouldn't install - Quickbooks 2005. Also, Logitech doesn't have a version of setpoint that is Vista ready although the latest version does seem to install and work. When I have a chance I am going to install Vista on my test system which is a lower spec'ed 2.6ghz, 1GB of ram to see how it performs on that. But so far i have been impressed with the product.
