The judge overseeing the Microsoft Corp antitrust settlement said she will need no additional evidentiary hearings to decide whether the pact is in the public interest. But U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly questioned a key software definition used to define the reach of the settlement. She asked the government attorneys whether they were taking a different approach to so-called " middleware" and if so, why. She also questioned how a technical committee set up to enforce the settlement would function. She asked whether the three-member panel would need a unanimous decision to act or whether one member alone could prompt an investigation.
