to review:
LinuxIsTheft claimed that files containing the string "Copyright (C) 1998-1999 Netscape Communications Corporation" are files from Netscape4.
Searching the source shows that this is not correct because many files contain a seemingly standardized header with the string "Portions created by Netscape are Copyright (C) 1998-1999 Netscape Communications Corporation."
LinuxIsTheft used the above disproved argument as the basis for his claim that searching for "1999" in the Firefox source is a way to accurately find that 25% of the code comes from Netscape4. Because many files that have been written post 1999 contain the above noted string searching for 1999 does not accurately reflect which files come from Netscape4.
LinuxIsTheft claimed that files starting with ns are from Netscape4 and that MANY of them have a modified date of 1998 or 1999. I have disproved this, there are only 22 such files out of a total of 36100 source files.
I've done another search for any file modified between 01/01/1980 to 01/01/2000 and the total number is 1689 files. This is less than 5% of the 36100 source files and that number contains many readme files, changelog files, images, .cvsignore files, bug descriptions, etc.
Not couting .cvsignore files, *.gif files, readme files, changelog files, *.cur files, bug description files, *.doc files leaves us with 822 files representing less than 2.3% of the total files in the source. Using this method one would be able to say that less than 2.5% of the source code could potentially come from Netscape4. However even this method is not correct as we don't know how many files that were modified past 2000 contain fragments of netscape4 code.
LinuxIsThef you said counting the number of files that contain the string "1999" in the source code reveals accurately how much code comes from Netscape4. I believe people are laughing at you for making that claim.
I eagerly await to disprove more of your claims!
