HardwareZoom.com has posted a review of TDK's true 8x dual format DVD writer, the AID+880N. Based on the NEC 2500A drive, the TDK drive supports writing DVD-R and +R at 8x, and DVD-RW and +RW at 4x. It can also write some 4x media at higher speeds. Here's a snippet from the review:
The TDK AID+880N is a serious performer when comes to DVD recording. 4X DVD-R blanks are pretty affordable today (less than S$3/disc for branded ones in jewel cases). By allowing 4X DVD-R to be written at 8X, the 880N brings instant 8X DVD recording availability to the mass market without having wait for (possibly expensive) supporting media.
Why write at 4X when you can write at 8X using the same media? All of a sudden, the 880N adds new meaning to our 4X DVD-R blanks. What used to take 15 minutes can now be accomplished in less than 10 minutes, with no noticeable decade in recording quality.
