Microsoft takes spam seriously.
Not only does the newly released version of Outlook -- part of the company's new Office System 2003 upgrade for the ubiquitous suite of Office desktop productivity tools -- contain a remarkably effective in-computer spam filter, but now it has joined forces with New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer in a lawsuit against one of the world's top spamming operations.
The company has been investigating spam operators for the last six months, according to sources, and recently announced that it was a plaintiff in six anti-spam lawsuits against operators that may be responsible for as much as 90 per cent of the spam tide ordinary users will have seen in recent months.
