The gating factor on your Internet access speed isn't your wireless network. It's your DSL or cable modem, which typically runs no faster than 6Mbps and probably a lot less. So data will be bouncing around your home or office at 54Mbps and then be choked by your Internet connection. Because of this, hardly anyone actually needs 802.11g today.
