THE Australian Democrats are trying to embarrass governments into supporting legislation mandating open source software, by asking questions in parliament about how much departments spend on Microsoft products. And Democrats in NSW, the ACT and federal parliament are drafting open source preference legislation along the lines of upper house member Ian Gilfillan's Bill in South Australia, as part of a campaign to lift the profile of the software. SA Democrat upper house member Mr Gilfillan has led the way with his private member's Bill. | ||

You might want to examine your position on this, because I actually agree with you. Both sides of the aisle spend without regard to means. |

Oh, I don't need to examine my position on this. I've been advocating this for years, along with across the board spending cuts. Then the next time some bafoon comes along and says "Hey everybody! I want to give you a massive tax cut" he also has to answer the followup question "Ok, and which services are we going to cut to provide for that?" Or if someone says "Hey, I want to give everybody free cars!" they have to answer the question "And how will you be paying for that, sir?" It'll be a bit difficult then to win elections with the DeToqueville technique of handing money out of the treasury. |

| I like what you are saying soda... except I dont look at it as "handing money out of the treasury". Thats my money. Bush is just handing it back to me. |
