Not too long ago, we reviewed PenDrive’s Plus 2.0 32MB Flash drive bearing USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compliance and performance to match. Out of eighteen other USB drives reviewed, the PenDrive Plus 2.0 took top marks with a stunning 7MB/sec read and nearly 2.5MB/sec write speed. None of the competition can touch these figures, not even DiskOnKey’s own USB 2.0 prototype which we had a chance to sample last month (review forthcoming). The Plus 2.0 32MB was a terrific product, but we were a bit leery about having such a fast product employ but 32MB of storage.
So, along came a Pen Drive 2.0 GB model in the mail. To say the least, I was a bit floored by it, since the highest capacity to date in our labs was 512MB from DiskOnKey, and this one quadrupled it. We were also astonished to find out that PenDriveUSA was working on a 3GB model, and to top it off, USB 2.0 versions of both. At the present time, USB 2.0 version of their Pen Drive with high capacities can’t be achieved since the current implementation requires a double chipset, however they are working hard on a single-chip solution which would in turn provide space inside the Pen Drive for an extra memory module, enabling larger capacities.
