Thanks to all who sent this in. "JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, Houston, Texas (CNN) -- The space shuttle Columbia, with seven astronauts aboard, broke up as it descended over central Texas Saturday toward a planned landing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Residents as far east as Shreveport, Louisiana, reported seeing and feeling an apparent explosion.

#53 - I agree completly, they should always deal with those kind of warnings I can't believe that they might not have when coming into the most vital stage of the mission.

Wow now mooresa56 has entered the fray acting like a child.
parker - You mean you've forgotten all those "quagmire" stories?"
How odd, you called these lies, yet hmm... It's over a year later and we're still fighting in Afghanistan with no clear end in site. At what point do we start calling it a quagmire?
I find it very disappointing that we have several children here who rely on hyperbole in order to try to make an argument. Your emotionally charged arguments would have more impact if it wasn't for the fact that you were so totally willing to overlook all of these actions back when Iraq was our supposed "friend."
That's the difference between parker, mooresa56 and myself. I did not approve of our involvement with Iraq in the 1980's. I did not approve of Hussein's actions back then. I do not approve of Hussein today. It's interesting because that makes parker and mooresa56 hypocrites, whereas I am not.(Not sure why that should surprise anyone, both of these people are nothing but boot lickers for the Bush administration)
I'm also not opposed to military action against Iraq, but it needs to be clearly debated and clearly justified. I have absolutely no interest in blindly following anyone. I especially have no interest in "trusting" an Administration who has thus far proven they are incapable of deserving trust through a pattern of closed government secrecy and lies.
I'm looking forward to Colin Powell presenting evidence in front of the UN. We'll see if it's as compelling as that presented by Adlai Stevenson during the cuban missile crisis.

Fredzilla2000 - Interesting article. It may be hard to NASA to determine exactly what happened. Thus far we only know that sensors on the left wing failed.
I saw one commentor point out that the con-trail following the breakup was consistent with the shuttle spinning out of the control. So it could be that the left wing was the first part to disintegrate.
The shuttle does not have very good aerodynamic properties, any little problem would likely destabilize it. It's not like the old B-17 bombers coming home in WWII with half the wings shot off.
parker - "Thats what all the ignorant people say ... and what they said about Afghanistan too. "
This is called ad hominem.
Grow up.

#60 - who here said they like it? I think the person people here should have less respect for is you for coming out with such rubbish and putting words into other peoples mouths. I said the Iraqi people (majority) hate the U.S., its likely to be a fact, but then again a lot of countries don't like the U.S because of the way they try to make weild their power over others.
No one says they like living under a dicatatorship yet they don't know any better and have been so used to it for years they believe that Saddam is something bigger than God. I just believe you are wrong - his death will change some things, but won't change a lot of things, but again you are trying to swing your views on other people, everyone has an opinion, I'm not saying yours is wrong, im saying mine is different. A war doesn't end when the last shot is fired, which tends to happen with George Bush Jnr.
I don't say I have no respect for you for wanting to wage war on a country while you sit back and don't take part it in do I. Just because I don't think death for death solves things doesn't make me a bad person, you are actually the one talking about wars as if it is a good thing.

You must be a Bush fan after #62 as you seem to be ignoring anything anyone else is saying. I have said all along don't RUSH into war, which WAS what bush was trying to do, same as he did in Afganistan, I have a major problem with the way he goes in, bombs and guns first - once the death is out of the way he leaves them to basically fend of themselves all of the destruction and death.
I have no problem with them taking out Saddam, just not some of the Iraqi people in the process (as will happen, and you can't deny that). But deal with what happens afterwards, don't just leave it all yet again.
Oh and I'm not just picking on Bush - our President...oh I mean Part Time prime minister Tony Blair is just as bad, thankfully though he may have realised 70% of the UK public didn't want a war in which lots of our people and their people die and has managed to hold back Bush for a short time. Think things through people, think them through

M00zilla - "Maybe when Russia gain entry to teh EU you will see the EU overtake on the space business big time, it wont be the US they think about for a commercial launch, it will be the EU."
Maybe... Russia spends $300 million a year on space. NASA's budget is some $14 billion.
The EU could become the #1 player in space, but it's going to have to spend the money.
