Thanks Jacob: Regretfully, Neowin.net has closed down as stated as a statement on their website "We don't have the capacity to support the type of site we have always wanted to bring to our visitors. Despite our best efforts we are still refusing our visitors and long term members the web site due to errors similar to "Server too busy"
Since Neowin will never be just another phpnuke or copycat wannabe tech site we would rather call it a day than continue to limp on our resources. So for now we opt for closure."
As always, we welcome former NeoWin.Net users to our websites, comments and forums. Update: They have now said it is only temporary, so as guessed, they will be back for anyone that cares.

Mr Magoo, if you want to carry on swearing please do it on your own site. As you are only proving what we have been saying about certain neowin staff being immature.

Then go back to their site, we don't force anyone to use ours or tell other sites what to do. We like to do things ourselves and not use IBF or vB, you guys do, so whats the problem? Stick with what you enjoy and stop the moaning. Why would we want to take over the popularity, we're a site that has lasted 5 years, not a year and our forums are not full of "Where can i download this", this site is for helping users.
Your response is like saying Slashdot sucks for its 1992 design, clearly it doesn't.

#62 - We would have been sympathetic if they had actually bothered to appologise for what their staff did here a few months ago. And as for saying about how we have insulted them, I remind you what they started on their forums and ours about us for no reason a few months ago, I remind you about what was said about Paul T just this past week too.
Also saying why have we been telling people they have closed - well its pretty easy to figure out, your site actually said it was closed, so our headline was the same as was written on the neowin site at the time, one of your staff changed it to being a temp thing, so don't complain that sites have said you are closed as it was you guys that posted it.
So it's best not to say we are being insulting, we're not insulting them - we're stating what they (the staff and a small bunch of users) did here to get on our nerves, show they were children and they never had the decency to say sorry.

#66 - I wasn't being sarcastic there. I know I can be overly sarcastic sometimes though. I was just updating the story bob posted saying that they had changed what was written on their site and for anyone who cares about.

#71 - thanks for your comments. We are pleased when new people visit the site and actually realise we have more to offer than just news, our tips, faq's etc actually gain 80,000 more page views a day than our news sections.
As for Neowin, I didn't post up this bit of news on the site, Bob did - I updated it to say they changed it from closed to Temp closed, it was obvious to anyone with sense that they wouldn't actually be closing for good, but as you say, why dwell on a site that is closed currently...move on, there are far bigger things to worry about than neowin and if as some people say, neowin is their life, then I feel sorry that they have nothing else to live for.

#73 Neowin has more 1st hand news then ActiveWin.
I visit both sites daily for nearly 2 years.
I like both sites, but bit dissappointed in some of the things said by AW admins.

#75 - I'd disagree, but then again I've been working on this site for 5 years and we've been through lots more than other sites. After they accused us of stealing one piece of news from them we kept checking up to see who posted stuff first, worked out we posted 60% more news items than them first...we're just not up ourselves enough to go around telling others sites they steal from us because after all, neowin and ourselves are just news feeds. The only difference between the two sites bar maturity most of the time - is that we don't offer warez downloads.
I understand why some newbie’s or whoever would think we're being unreasonable, but if they had been around 3/4 months ago when their staff caused problems here for no reason other than immaturity they might just get why we've told everyone just how it is.

Well maybe I should do my homework better. I use both sites a lot as source for news on my site.
I allways name the sources of course.

I'm sure you do Bink - I've got no problems with the way other sites are run. We always give the sources, we give the source to the people who deserve it as no one else should get the hits other than the people who write the stories.
Such as the DirectX 9 news - posted here first, came via e-mail, the e-mailed didn't want his name written across the site. If its a Microsoft PR release, it comes from Microsoft Press Releases, if its a written stories by a reuters news writer - its a Reuters source.
We do however fall behind other sites at weekends though, but that is simple because most of us here have a social life and like to be out at weekends, and for that i'm glad.

Thanks #80 - We're always pleased when other sites staff post here and show not everyone is bad. Yesterday we just lived the moment, I wish this story wasn't posted by Bob here now, it wasn't newsworthy.

The real reason neowin.net is dead...
They are changing to a beta build of .NET server and porting all of their website over to ASP.NET!

RedAvenger - I hope that's true. It would certainly make their site more credible as a windows resource.
I quite honestly do not understand some of the comments coming from Neowin people here accusing ActiveWin of being unfair. I've been reading AW for about a year, and had never heard of neowin until their admins started coming over here and posting juvenile crap into the message boards accusing AW of stealing news off Microsoft press releases and other nonsense.
It was only then that I checked out neowin and find that the admins there had started an entire thread on their board about how much activewin sucks. Just when I was going to respond with an opposing viewpoint, they close the thread. So I sent my email response to neobond(and a few others). Neobond responded with the most immature, juvenile crap I have seen in a long time.
That was the first and last time I went to visit neowin, and I quite honestly will just say good riddance. The Windows community doesn't need childishness like what neowin represented.
I come to Activewin for news and interesting discussion. This site is good at providing that, so I continue to visit daily. I used to visit slashdot a lot, but I find now that interesting news lags behind on their site by 1-2 days after I've seen it elsewhere. And the quality of comments tends to be quite low by comparison.
Ohwell, I do wish the neowin people had simply apologized for their actions instead of continuing the anomosity. Hopefully when they get their site back up using better software they will do so.

I've been reading AW for about 2 years now. I only heard of neowin.net about a month ago when I guess the spam started.
As for you Byron, you seem a bit... well obsessed. 86 post and how many are yours? Continuing to comment on the matter just flames the fire. Don't sweat it man! Activewin.com speaks for itself.

#84 - It was simply a comment it didn't mean anything, I posted it because I didn't think the post should have been up in the first place. Because I assumed most readers here wouldn't care about it at all.

I have been readin AW for a little over a year now as well and only heard of NeoWin a few months ago. I visited them daily as well after that just to see what was up, but I still visited here more often. I check AW at least three times a day. But if it was not for the childishness of NeoWin on AW I would have never known they existed. So I do not know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

I have been reading Activewin since about the time Stefan98.com was I think. So, I have been reading it for quite sometime. I probably check the site no less than 10 times a day...I need my MS fix, don't ya know? That way I don't have to have a million sites to check everyday...I like how all the news comes in this one place.
I will admit that Neowin did have screenshots that I REALLY like to see on beta products though.
