MSN 8 Asks Users to Pay for Some Online Services
Time: 16:00 EST/21:00 GMT | News Source: Gartner | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Microsoft's decision to move MSN to a partial for-pay model reasonably extends the trend in which content and application providers seek financial legitimacy by countering the popular mid-1990s assertion that information ("content" is the more common term in 2002) "wants to be free." The precipitous decline in competition among Internet information and interaction hubs makes the for-pay business model more defensible than ever — the critical issue here.

Gartner had a video at the start of the interview with people asking questions they would like Ballmer to answer. McNealy was one of the people in the video. He basically said, "Ballmer, you predicted that Liberty Alliance would not matter. Care to make any more predictions about future software initiatives?". Basically snide remarks as usual with SM.

I'd say that Liberty has yet to show that it matters. Talk about vaporware, it's been a year plus since it was announced, but i've yet to see a site that said "sign up for your Liberty Alliance ID here". Sounds like Liberty doesn't matter yet.

i think it is a misnomer to have an interview with mc nealy and call it a "mastermind interview".

#435 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 10/11/2002 1:18:34 AM

Tee Hee. This is better than a comedy show!

For the most part, I agree with daz.
One thing, however (and I am by no means an authority on religion), RMD IIRC linked to a book that detailed the differences in Church teachings and the actual text. I've also seen other sources that support that info. If the sources are true, Peter was not the rock upon which the Church was built. The actual word used was Petros, or something similar, which has the actual meaning of boulder or stone, etc. In other words, it pointed out an actual stone or rock foundation on which to build the Church, not the person, Peter.

IIRC, the sources also said that there is no other evidence to support why Jesus would trust Peter in this capacity, nor was he considered a central figure among the others in the group. I believe Peter was also the one Jesus told to "get the behind me" or something like that.

I think the sources claimed that this was one of many interpretations and changes made by the Catholic Church to better support their religious system.

Another thing, which daz pointed out, is the Catholic reliance and worship of Mary. This, supposedly is wrong, along with Catholic image worship and their religious hierarchy which uses names supposedly reserved and not meant to be used, etc., etc.

Like I said, I'm no expert and am just going on things I've read and seen. No offence intended in any way. This is why religion is always such a sticky subject. That and Politics. :-)
