Electric PLayground have posted a preview of the upcoming Super Hero MMPORG, City of Heros. Here is part of it:

The city from which the game takes its name is Paragon City USA, and it surely needs those heroes too. The city has only recently been devastated by inter-dimensional aliens known as the Rikti, leaving large sections burnt out and deserted, except for the criminal (and monstrous) elements. Although other parts of the city have returned to relative normalcy, supervillains and criminal organizations such as the Circle of Thorns and Nemesis threaten peace and justice in Paragon City. That would be your cue to come to the rescue.

You'll start by creating a character. The game takes into account "origins" (ie. how the player got his or her powers) and the origins cover a wide variety of types that would fit just about any comic book hero you could name. They are: Mutant, Altered Human, Magical Powers, Superior Human, Gadgeteer, Mystic Artifacts, and Cyberware. There are 40 basic powers, such as Flight, Energy Blast, Power Punch, Density Control (increase density to make yourself tougher, decrease density and walk through walls), Claws, Superspeed, Heat Control, Cold Control, and so on. With subcategories factored in, the Cryptic boys told me there are about 150 powers.
