Microsoft Game Studios is pleased to announce that "Psychonauts" was named "Best
Original Game" of E3 2002 in this year's Game Critics Awards. The runner-up in the
same category went to another new star in the Microsoft line-up: "Blinx: The Time
Sweeper."
“Everyone at Double Fine is incredibly excited about winning this award, first
because it’s a great honor, and secondly, it means that the Game Critics have finally
forgiven us for that time we broke into their clubhouse and stole their mascot goat,”
said Tim Schafer, game designer and CEO of Double Fine Productions.
"We're very proud of the richly imaginative world that Tim Schafer and Double
Fine Productions have created in Psychonauts," said Ed Fries, vice president of
Xbox game content at Microsoft. "Creating games like this keeps these guys off the
streets."
“Psychonauts” is a wildly surreal action-adventure game in which players use
paranormal powers to plunge into the minds of bizarre characters. Players journey
deep into crazy worlds of infinite possibility to thwart the secret plan of an evil
madman and realize the ultimate dream of joining an elite force of psychic superheroes,
the Psychonauts.
"Blinx: The Time Sweeper" is the world's first "4-D" platformer, where players
control the flow of time in more than 35 fantastically twisted worlds - just like
using a VCR remote on the real world. Using the hard drive to digitally record players'
every move, gameplay can be paused, slowed, rewound, recorded and played back, providing
a totally new gaming experience only possible on Xbox.
