VMware just released its biggest, most comprehensive array of software, with an ultimate aim of creating fully automated supercomputing systems that can handle mammoth amounts of complexity, work securely with all sorts of work and consumer phones, tablets, and whatnot…and put many of its big competitors on the spot. Details on the offering here.
Most notably on the spot: Microsoft. Not only does VMware’s core release, called VSphere 5, allow more performance and scalability in the server virtualization that has long bedeviled Microsoft, VMware’s release of complimentary products in security and compliance, data protection and recovery, provisioning, and management is both a big selection of products, and an effort to make many functions of corporate computing merge into a single system of mega-IT.
