Visual Studio Team System expands significantly on Microsoft's demonstrated successes in delivering highly productive tools, offering businesses tightly integrated and extensible lifecycle tools to increase the predictability of their software development process.

Microsoft offers Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition for professional developers working alone or in small teams who build mission-critical, multitier applications. The Professional Edition expands on the Standard Edition feature set to include tools for remote server development and debugging, SQL Server 2005 development, and a full, unconstrained development environment.

The Express products are an expansion of the Visual Studio 2005 product line to include lightweight, easy to use, and easy to learn tools for hobbyists, students, and novice developers who want to build dynamic Windows applications, Web sites, and Web services.

Visual SourceSafe 2005 is a version control system for individual developers or small teams who need a lightweight, client-only, file server application for source code control. Larger development teams requiring an enterprise-grade source code control solution are encouraged to evaluate Visual Studio Team Foundation, a part of Visual Studio 2005 Team System.
