Sony said it would release seven new Network Walkman music players that use Flash memory for data storage. The new Walkmans will range in price from $90 for a 256-megabyte device, to $200 for a device with 1 gigabyte of storage. The different models will be released between late March and May.
By comparison, Apple's Flash memory iPod shuffle players come in two versions, 512 megabytes for $99 and 1 gigabyte for $149.
Allan Jason, vice president of portable electronics as Sony Electronics, said in a statement that the new music players "speak to the way people really use portable audio players."
