The European Commission said on Monday its investigation of Microsoft Corp was continuing despite the antitrust settlement the software giant reached with the U.S. government last week. The European Commission said in August it was investigating whether Microsoft was trying to damage rivals by embedding its proprietary audio and video software, Media Player, into its Windows operating system. The Commission also said at the time it looking at whether Microsoft designed its Windows 2000 operating system to work better with its own servers than those of rivals. It said then it was combining this case, in which it issued a formal statement outlining its concerns, with a similar case covering Windows 98. "The investigation is ongoing and it's at a preliminary stage," Commission spokeswoman Amelia Torres told reporters, in response to questions.
