Major retailers are asking for increased shipments of Nintendo Co. Ltd's 7974.OS new GameCube video game consoles to offset an expected shortfall in supply of Microsoft's competing XBox, which debuts the same week, a Nintendo executive said on Friday. Peter Main, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo of America, said major retail chains like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. WMT.N asked Nintendo this week to increase shipments of its upcoming console. On Friday, Microsoft Corp. MSFT.O announced it was delaying the launch of the XBox by a week to Nov. 15 and backed off an earlier commitment to have between 600,000 to 800,000 units available at launch. The software giant said it is still on track to ship between 1 million and 1.5 million consoles by year end. | ||
