Microsoft Passport changes don't satisfy critics
Time: 10:14 EST/15:14 GMT | News Source: Reuters | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Microsoft Corp is making changes that could address some privacy issues surrounding the Web authentication service known as Passport, but the moves may not quiet the software giant's critics, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition on Friday. Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft said it will encourage improved privacy by requiring merchants that use Passport to support a new technology known as P3P, for Platform for Privacy Preferences, the report said. According to the newspaper, Microsoft is also reducing the amount of information gathered when users sign up for a Passport account, and shifting responsibility for payment authorization and a database of user's profiles to other parts of Microsoft, citing company officials.
