After a long a gruelling struggle trying to get the thread notification stuff
working, we are pleased to announce that Beta
1.5 has now been unleashed!
The biggest and baddest feature of this release is, of course, the new thread
notification stuff.
If you wish to track a thread and be notified when someone posts a reply, simply
click the "Notify" button near the title of the thread and select which types of
notification you wish to receive. Currently we only have:
- Email Notification
- MSN Notification
These notifiers use the "Email" and "MSN" properties of your user profile. So
if you plan on using these, make sure your email and/or MSN properties are configured
properly in your user profile via the forum profile link - as the rest of the site
hasn't been linked up to our new profile system yet.
If you wish to see what all threads you're currently watching/tracking, go to
your user profile and select the "Watched Threads" tab. From there you can navigate
to that thread and change your settings. Unfortunately, we forgot to add a button
to disable all notifications at once. That will probably be in Beta 1.6.
Another "feature" or bug fix, actually, is, in IE, you can't enter more than
the maximum amount of text for a post (4096 characters). Also, there is a small
progress bar under the post textbox which lets you know how close to the limit you
are.
Some other features and bugfixes in this release:
- Signatures removed from the QUOTE when you're
replying to a post
- Signatures removed from Post History in User Profiles
( NOTE: these only work for posts that were created in Beta 1.5 or later
)
- "This post edited on" adjusted for your timezone (only for edits in Beta 1.5
or later)
- Locked icon shows next to threads to which you do not have permissions to write
- "Post a new thread" does not show in forums to which you do not have permissions
to write
- Forum activity icons not shown for anonymous users
Special thanks for Bas Geertsema for his contribution of the DotMSN MSN Messenger
Protocol implementation in .NET which we used for the MSN notification stuff.
