Together with an ARM-920 processor and a LCD display (320 x 240 pixels) PowerVR demonstrated with a prototype that hardware-accelerated 3-D graphics is possible also for the mobile area (PDA).
The manufacturer wants to produce the graphics core in 0,13 µm technology. In a System-on-Chip solution (SoC) the core occupies maximum 6 square millimetres room. At a clock rate of 120 MHz the chip processes up to 4 million triangles per second. The graphics processor produces a maximum power loss of 60 mW at a clock rate of 50 MHz.
In cooperation with STMicroelectronics PowerVR will have finished the first Pocket multi-media solutions with the new MBX 3-D core at the end of 2003.
