Stomped: You have stated that the first game you will be doing will be a PC and Xbox title. Why these particular platforms for your first efforts?
Holm: The type of game we will make will require the power of these platforms. We are shooting for 2003 or 2004 as a ship date. We are going for photo realistic graphics and living, breathing characters in an evolving world. At the time of projected shipping, the tech should be there to support it. Xbox is a very appealing console. The visual quality is superb and the price per performance is something not a gamer in the world can turn down. I'm not too partial to the controller however. Also, the Xbox version will be a slightly different game than the PC version. With the priority being upon the PC version. We will create gameplay that adheres perfectly to the medium it is being used on. Hence the same gameplay cannot be fine tuned for keyboard/mouse then simply ported to a gamepad. Gamers deserve better. So resources allowing, two variations of the same game will be created. Utilizing the same assets, same story, simply changing the gameplay in hopefully a non destructive way to take advantage of the platform it dwells upon. This was solidified after playing an in progress, yet hard to control Halo on the cramped Xbox controller at DA. Hopefully it's not the final controller design either, or the only one that will be available.
