Talk about a quick turnaround. On Thursday last week the German subsidiary of Microsoft said that its head, Kurt Sibold, had decided to leave the company for a job with a medium-sized company near his family. On Monday Microsoft GmbH, in Unterschleissheim, Germany, announced the appointment of Jürgen Gallmann as Sibold's replacement as chairman of the management board. In this function, he will also serve as vice president of Microsoft in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Gallmann, an economist by training, will leave IBM, where he has worked as vice president of software for the German region since 1977. His former employers include VMARK Software and the U.S. accounting firm Ernst & Young.
