Mobile gaming stands poised to become a billion-dollar business -- but not on today's cell phones, a Sony executive told an audience here at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association show on Wednesday.
Despite the proliferation of cell phones this year, none of the handsets are good enough for serious gamers, said John Smedley, chief operations officer for Sony Online Entertainment.
The screens are too small and their resolution is poor, he said. Gamers, who have eagerly snatched up Sony gaming products like PlayStation and the game EverQuest, aren't willing to click all those buttons and scroll endlessly to play a game on a cell phone, Smedley said.
