Americans spent $70 million on one movie last weekend - but not in the theaters. In one of the biggest holiday weekends ever for VHS and DVD movies, Fox's sci-fi smash "X-Men" exceeded expectations by $20 million, according to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Last weekend, revenue from sales and rentals of "X-Men" discs and videos reached $70 million - $12.5 million more than the movie's huge opening weekend box-office gross just four months ago.
Money-wise, the "X-Men" box-office take was just a nose behind the revenues of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," which pulled in $73.8 million over the five-day holiday weekend.
