The world’s largest software maker, Microsoft, has now decided that it will move ahead of its “Enterprise centered” products to “Home centered” ones. Not that enterprise catering products are out from Microsoft’s priority, it is only that they now want to tap the hot home entertainment market. Microsoft will continue to get majority of its share, about 80%, from its Business customers. The company just no longer wants to see its customers in separate category as “home based consumer” or an “enterprise owner.”
The move seems to be inspired by Apple’s iPod which was the hottest gadget sold last Christmas. Gates in his speech at the Consumer Electronic Show was publicizing his deals with household names like TiVo, MTV Networks and the Discovery Channel. The company is trying to project itself as leading player in the market of digital songs and movies.
