WA federal Appeals Court is expected to rule shortly on Microsoft Corp.'s bid to delay a judge's order requiring it to distribute its rival Sun Microsystems' Java software for free with every desktop copy of its own Windows XP operating system.
The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, asked a week ago by Microsoft for emergency help in its long-running fight with Sun, was awaiting a response from Sun before acting. Yesterday, Sun objected, accusing Microsoft of trying to hobble its only serious competitor in the new market for a platform for Web-based services for personal computers.
