Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates showed a crowd at the Fargodome how new softwear could help a business serve customers. Gates made his first trip to Fargo, visiting Great Plains Softwear, a company Microsoft bought last year. At the Fargodome, Gates participated in a skit acting as a customer in an appliance showroom while another Microsoft worker portrayed a store clerk. The clerk showed Gates colors and other options using a handheld computer. Microsoft bought Great Plains Softwear early in 2001 and changed its name to Microsoft Business Solutions.
