MSN 8 Asks Users to Pay for Some Online Services
Time: 16:00 EST/21:00 GMT | News Source: Gartner | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Microsoft's decision to move MSN to a partial for-pay model reasonably extends the trend in which content and application providers seek financial legitimacy by countering the popular mid-1990s assertion that information ("content" is the more common term in 2002) "wants to be free." The precipitous decline in competition among Internet information and interaction hubs makes the for-pay business model more defensible than ever — the critical issue here.

I'll say it again, Gartner REALLY bugs me.

#243 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/24/2002 11:46:05 PM
k, second link is happy now. hmm, i might just make my webserver public again.

#244 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/24/2002 11:46:26 PM
I fixed it. I'm gonna make the background transparent.

#245 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/24/2002 11:48:21 PM
Yeah, Gartner continues their usual, crazy, unsubstantiated analyses.

#246 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/24/2002 11:49:58 PM
i look into the future and i see that "NULL" will have a remote root exploit. do you think that would prevent anyone from buy the next red hat? i doubt it. is it going to contain a remote root exploit? more than likely.

#247 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 12:03:32 AM

Added Transparency. Give me 10 seconds, though.

#249 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 9/25/2002 12:09:51 AM
nom just accused me of buying an imac. the idea of buying a lollipop computer makes me sick.

#250 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 9/25/2002 12:10:01 AM
:-)

It's not so hard. I'm not an artist (at least not a good one), but I can edit most pictures.

If you already checked the links, check again. Those had transparency but were PNG24, not PNG 8. IE has a bug where transparency doesn't come through with PNG 24.
