MS 'retires' corporate Windows Update in favour of SUS | |

According to the date on the relevant pages, Microsoft started talking about SUS (Software Update Services) on 20th June, but it's only today we've had the press release from the UK arm. Granted, it might have been announced somewhere else during the past couple of weeks, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the main press release pile at microsoft.com. Which is a pity, because it says here "Formerly known as Corporate Windows Update or Federated Windows Update, SUS is a security patch management tool targeted at small to medium sized enterprises..." | ||

Hmm, all corporate windows update did was provide a search engine where you could list all updates made available for Windows XP and download them.

sodablue: Thats not right. Corporate Windows Update did FAR more than that. Check your facts.
It was available before Windows XP and it allowed searching and downloading of updates and patches to most (if not all) versions of windows. It was quite a handy tool for sysadmins who wanted to find and download windowsupdate patches for distribution on their network without having to run windowsupdate on each individual machine. tgnb - Uhh, whatever. I used Windows XP as an example, but yes you could search for updates for Windows 2000, etc. as well. But the point was, it was nothing more than a search engine where you could download patches.
Not at all like the new SUS which allows you to push those patches out. |

| sodablue: your response is what i call the "moonwalk" syndrome. Instead of admitting that you were wrong, you attempt to say you only used Windows XP as an example. If that were so, you should have said it in the first place. |
