Yesterday, as we all know, Microsoft fed an 'exclusive' story about its new 'Palladium' DRM/PKI Trust Machine to Newsweek hack Steven Levy (a guy who writes without irony of "high-level encryption"), presumably because they trusted him not to grasp the technology well enough to question it seriously. His un-critical announcement immediately sparked a flurry of articles considering what this means to the Windows user base. And that's as it should be. But my question is, what does it mean to the Linux user base? | ||

Quickie question: Will IPv6 be a *requirement* for "trustworthy computing"/Palladium?
If not, then what's the point? Some of the "We know who you are, where you are, and when you did such-and-such" is built into the new Ip standard, making a chip on board not as needed; plus IPv4 is running out of space for growth (last report was in 2010 it'll be exhausted.) MS has the power to get up to grow up to IPv6, I hope they use it. |

Not sure if palladium centers around IPv6 or not on the network.
It should also be noted that IPv6 also offers complete anonomity features also. even more so than IPv4 does. But beyond that. XP sp1 offers fully supported IPv6 in the upgrade when it is released in aug. So the main support for it being the software will be in place, now the hardware changes can start. We are looking at 10 to 20 years to transition from ipv4 to ipv6, as the amount of hardware that is out there for ipv4 is humongous. El |
