MS faces XP compatibility problems with Mira | |

Microsoft Corp faces an embarrassing problem with the roll-out of its handheld "home companion" computer Mira, after a company executive revealed that the device will not work with computers running the Windows XP Home Edition operating system. The problem is that Microsoft has targeted the Mira devices at the home market, while the Tablet PC, a separate more expensive and fully featured device type is aimed at the corporate market. However, Mira will currently only run with XP Professional, because this includes a key piece of software needed to run the Mira Terminal, a software server that supports the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). | ||

The whole point is that it's NOT another computer. I like my desktop and it's power. I don't want some chumpy, slow tablet PC. I want to use my computer, but I want to take it with me all over the house. Mira is a great idea, and, at least for me, it's exactly what I want.

XP Home doesn't have an RDP SERVER though, does it?
The problem isn't the client, it's that Mira (using RDP) cannot connect to an XP Home box because there's nothing to connect to! |

Umm, yeah... Do people seriously think that XP Home is so much different from Pro that the RDP server can't be added to it easily?
Home and Pro are the same underlying product... just a few things turned off in Home. |

Now tell me, was this just somebodies bright idea at The Register, or is it actually an MS problem.
Microsoft has been working on Mira for quite some time now, I sincerely doubt that the Home issue would be a problem. |

Actually, Terminal Services works very well. You can support a pretty good number of users, all running fairly beefy apps. |

#9 - No need... They bundle the RDP Server upgrade in as part of the cost of the Mira product. Adds an extra feature to your OS when you buy Mira.
