Got Nero 5.5.8.2? So You Have Nero Express, Too! | |

Our buddies at NeoWin.Net have today posted a quite interesting tip. As you might know, Ahead's developers have been working for some time now, on Nero Express; a simplified version of their outstanding and leading burning program Nero. Nero Express is aimed to be an alternative to mainstream software like Roxio Easy CD-Creator. Despite Nero Express isn't officially available yet, it's already embedded in the latest version 5.5.8.2 of Nero. To check out this new Nero interface you just have to add in the existing Nero shortcut the '/w' switch. So it gives: "C:\Program Files\ahead\Nero\nero.exe" /w. Have fun :)

Everyone who knows better uses Nero AWJulien. It's got good features, and more importantly, it is STABLE and doesn't EAT your computer like ECDC can.
When ECDC 5 Platinum was released, it said "Compatible with Windows 2000" on the box. It should have said "Destroys Windows 2000 on Contact". Instead of fixing the problem to correct this, they _removed_ the offending feature, and never bothered to fix it. Nero is your best bet. However, I must say there is another product that has been getting my attention. RecordNow MAX 4 is a darned nice package. I especially like the neat, clean interface. Unfortunately, it doesn' t support my writer (TDK 32/10/40B), which is odd since it's one of the most popular writers sold, and has been #1 on PCWorlds Top-10 list for several months. RecordNow MAX is written by Veritas, and is sold by Stomp, Inc. Veritas won't support it, and they send you to Stomp. Stomp doesn't support it either, apparantly, because I've been trying for 2 months to get a response from them and have yet to get it. Stomp's technical/product support is absolutely non-existent if my experiences are typical. So, that brings us back to Nero. Still your best bet :) TL |

I've been using this new 'Method' all day long and all I can say is...
I LIKE IT! I find it just as fast, if not faster, to set up a burn. What I like most is that I don't need a full-screen window to get the job done like I typically do with the standard interface or wizard. You can do the same things with 1/4 the window size. There's a lot here that reminds me of Veritas RecordNow MAX, which is also good but suffers from poor recorder support and TERRIBLE tech support. Very nice job. TL |
