| The Surface shell is being reported as being magnesium, which is quite flammable in thin strips or as a powder. Therefore, it is highly probable the shell is a durable alloy and not pure magnesium. |

Yeah, I've seen a Magnesium wheel catch fire during a burnout at a dragstrip once when the tire blew and it hit the ground.
The guy lost his entire damn car. They couldn't put it out. In the Navy, they just told us to push it over the side if it was Magnesium and it caught fire. Magnesium is unique in that it can provide it's own oxygen for combustion, and it will burn under water. This post was edited by TechLarry on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 14:20. |
