Enterprise Applications: Apple Mac OS X ‘Lion` Bests Microsoft Windows 7: 10 Reasons Why | |

Apple’s Mac OS X "Lion" has been available for a little over a week, and already the operating system has performed well. According to Apple, in just its first day of availability, Apple sold 1 million copies of its latest operating system version. The excitement over Mac OS X Lion prior to its launch was palpable. Consumers and even some enterprise users were happy to see the addition of a host of new features, including Mission Control, LaunchPad and Resume. More importantly, they were pleased to get their hands on the operating system digitally, rather than being forced to head to the store to pick up the new OS. But now that Lion is available and consumers have had the chance to try it out, it’s a good time to compare it to its chief competitor, Windows 7. Microsoft’s operating system is wildly popular in its own right, and it delivers a host of improvements over Windows Vista. But there are some ways in which it falls short against Mac OS X Lion. | ||

| I didn't see any one feature that would make me want to switch. iCloud apps definitely has more polish. MS Skydrive looks unfinished, Google's calendar has a lot of wasted space, on the plus side it links with my Android phone perfectly. Also just read the IE story about dumb users was bogus. |

| The author's bias is clear and his analysis is thin. In particular, when he mentions pricing and confusion as two advantages of OS X he fails to fully consider the cost of the hardware in the former and the number of hardware choices for the latter. Apple is a hardware company first and foremost and comparing their software pricing, packaging and distribution model to Microsofts, while valid, is simply not thorough and perhaps disingenuous without also mentioning the attached hardware--which is always required! |

Fluff piece. I love the title--"enterprise applications"--and yet it mentions not one enterprise application, which is the elephant in the room.
The resume feature is cool, but actually Windows 7 does have something similar. I haven't bothered to research about it, but I don't know of a way for a user to access it directly. It kicks in during a scheduled Windows Update, though--when the machine comes back on, the applications start up, all your open Outlook messages reopen, the browser resumes, etc. The App Store is smart... for Apple, and in some ways for users. But where is the outcry and antitrust arguments?? Imagine if you are Adobe, staring at the prospect of selling competing image and video editing software vs. Apple--Apple gets 100% of their sales, plus 30% of yours. Microsoft is adding their own store as well, of course... it will be interesting to see how all this pans out. It seems like there is quite an opportunity for a 3rd party that doesn't compete to come in and undercut Apple, Microsoft, etc. while offering a safe (i.e., not competing) place for developers to sell and distribute their products. |

| That's a good suggestion and you should offer it up to the beta group. We are going to have an area that users submit news, and we can pick from it in a queue to be posted on the home page. Is that what you meant? |
