Microsoft convinces another Android vendor to sign a patent-protection deal | |

Microsoft has added another Android backer to the list of those signing with Redmond for patent protection. On June 27, Microsoft announced that General Dynamics Itronix signed a patent agreement with Microsoft for Itronix devices running Android. Microsoft characterized the agreement as providing “broad coverage under Microsoft’s patent portfolio for General Dynamics Itronix devices running the Android platform.” “Although the contents of the agreement have not been disclosed, the parties indicate that Microsoft will receive royalties from General Dynamics Itronix under the agreement,” said Microsoft in its press release. | ||

I hope they have a clause in their contract that says something like:
"If the courts deem Microsoft to be Full Of Shit, then the agreement is null and void". :) |

That does kinda seem to be what this is.
Didn't MS do this same thing concerning Linux a few years ago? IIRC that whole mess never went anywhere, and those that paid well, they just paid. |

#4: There was the proxy war against Linux that MS fought using SCO as cannon fodder. I remember SCO having millions of lines of infringing code, and they talked at great length about it for years. Too bad for SCO (and MS) it was all BS and exposed as such. SCO paid the ultimate price, but you know their senior execs got out with their millions somehow while the rank & file hit the unemployment line. What's most telling is how MS will sue all these phone vendors over weak MS patents supposedly in Android. Everyone, that is, except Google. I wonder why.
I think MS knows it won't be able to stop Linux, but it's desperate to at least slow it down as much as possible. However, a reasonable person will chafe at the hypocrisy of watching MS whine about the unfair software patent landscape, while simultaneously using that same bogus patent regime to stifle competition. |
