Interesting article, if it weren't for the author's lack of credible references to back up his facts.
The reason why I say this is if you look at Microsoft's Q2/2011 report here: http://www.microsoft.com/investor/EarningsAndFinancials/Earnings/PressReleaseAndWebcast/FY11/Q3/default.aspx and open/download the financial statements and then go to the Excel tab named Segment Revenue and Operating Income and Loss, what you learn is that Microsoft generated $648 million in the online segment while expending $726 million for a total net loss in the segment of $78 million for the quarter.
Yet, if you look at the 9 month results, also noted in the referenced report, they generated $1.866 billion in the online segment while expedning $1.829 billion for a net gain of $34 million.
While not the happiest of outcomes, it is a far cry from the "pull them out of your a**" nonsense that Blodget came up with.
Perhaps Henry Blodget needs a course in how to read financial statements and accounting.
By the way, some of you might of heard of Blodget before he morphed into CEO of Business Insider. Back in the day, he gave what one might call BS analysis of what everyone calls now the .Dot Bomb era for which he and his firm at the time, Merrill Lynch, got the crap sued out of them by the SEC. Later, "Customer #9" aka Idiot Spitzer got him booted out of the industry for life.
