On the heels of a report that Google will phase out Windows in its workplace over security concerns, Microsoft on Tuesday stood up for its operating system.

And, to be expected, the MS response was full of weasel words and outright fabrications.
"When it comes to security, even hackers admit we're doing a better job making our products more secure than anyone else," said Microsoft spokesman Brandon LeBlanc Really? Which hackers are you referring to, and where are they? On Gartner's payroll? "And it's not just the hackers; third party influentials and industry leaders like Cisco tell us regularly that our [security] focus and investment continues to surpass others," LeBlanc added. Nobody cares about your security focus and investment; that isn't the issue at all but thanks for the misdirection. They care about, you know, your security or lack thereof. Then there's the codewords: "third party influentials" = shills, er I mean, analysts like Rob Enderle, "industry leaders" = Microsoft partners who wouldn't publicly say anything bad. |

Shall we keep track of how long it will take for Google to reverse itself like IBM did several years ago after their august announcment?
Or we could go back in further with the announcement by Munich, Germany that they were going open sore. Are they there, yet? lol Meanwhile, the company I work for gets attempted hacks by the tens of thousands from the Chinese. They have long ago surpassed Eastern Europe and Russia although they are both right up there. Diliigencel, hard work, and multi level security makes it nearly impossible to get through, so far. My guess is that it was Google employees, in country, that either assisted in the breach or due to lack of good secruity policy Google let itself get breached. Meanwhile, there are thousand of companies from all over the world doing business in Chins, but only Google gets so breached that it has to pull out. hmmmmmm . . . |

| And just to prove my point, consider today's massive MS announcement about the bumper-crop of exploits they're supposedly fixing this month. Included in this dog's breakfast is a fix for a 4-month old IE bug and 3 remote code exploits. But don't worry about this month's batch of own-your-box bugs. What's important is Microsoft's security focus and security investment. That's gotta count for something, right? You'll sleep better at night even though your bank credentials were just shipped to Bulgaria. |

Sure there is; it's just not as effective as proper engineering. Didn't MS just admit a few weeks ago that it sometimes fixes something in a patch and doesn't necessarily document it? |
