4,5, I agree. Even though one may work with MS, and I do like their software, one has to keep sober about them and understand that like every business, they are there to win - no matter who they hurt.
I've always maintained that understanding and have always thought of ourselves as competitors - even though I'll work as closely with them as is necessary. It makes for an interesting dichotomy and surely from time to time, they stun me with how stupid they are.
And Fritzly is right, Gates would never allow this sort of thing to go on. If a product line started to hurt devs, and partners, he quietly kill it by pulling away technical emphasis - leaving the bean counters to build it themselves. It's not Ballmer either - he's very similar, but doesn't have the stroke with devs in the same way. It's just one big company and it acts like it much of the time. This move is however going to bite them so hard. Many small firms have to have on premise stores, period.
