Microsoft Could Make Minor Change | |

Nine states suing Microsoft Corp. say the company could make a minor change to its Windows operating system to escape a requirement in its antitrust settlement guaranteeing equal access to competitors. The states said Microsoft could avoid having to provide access to competing music and video players by simply making its media feature invisible to users rather than displayed on the screen automatically. It is "one of the areas we are constantly looking at," Microsoft official Linda Averett acknowledged in court Monday. | ||

| soda, you are completely misreading it. They are questioning Averett about the DOJ proposal--which in regards to audio capabilities, even if access to the programs are hidden, MS can and currently does override other players--a clear and honest admission that the DOJ settlement is ineadequate at least in regards to audio. The states are saying this is why it does need to be completely removed--they aren't changing their story now. |

and real players Media player doesn't SJ??
Hell after you load their realone POS, you have to manually go in and force it to release different media codecs that it shouldn't have taken over when you asked it not to. Even when you override the file in the platform Realone would take over the file format. At least with Media player I could select which media device I wanted to play in. and was given the option to when I loaded other media players. El |

Are you saying that Real uses its monopoly of Windows to control what audio player you use? No? Then you are just an idiot, but you'd be a bigger one if that's what you were saying. It's not my fault MS built those capabilities into their OS for other software to use. Can you change this? Yes.
The fact of the matter is--Averett said that EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE SELECTED A DIFFERENT APP FOR AUDIO PLAYBACK, WMP WILL OVERRIDE THAT USER CHOICE EVEN IF OTHER PLAYERS HAVE THE SAME ABILITY. Can you remove or not install Real? YES. I don't care if you don't like Real. SO WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR POINT? |

Sodajerk, Windows Media Player only overrides another player if that player doesn't have the capability to play back the file, or if WMP remains the default player for a certain file type. If you correctly set another player as the default, WMP will not override it.
Why have you resorted to all of these personal attacks lately, Sodajerk? They only hurt any possible argument you may have. Try to chill a bit. |
