I have to laugh at the sudden, slew of Mac bloggers taking swings at Windows 7 and asserting that Macs will continue to sell well after Microsoft's newest OS ships. Feeling a little defensive are we, bros? Their reaction shows worry that the thing they profess against -- surging PC sales that swamp Macs -- may yet be reality.

Bring it on! The issue where OS/X "resets" a users account after using the guest account on a Snow Leopard upgrade is hilarious. Microsoft has had issues, but this is in excusable. It just works! ROFL :)

Yea, but I still don't know why you'd log into and use the guest account.. It'd be the same thing as using it in windows.. Doesn't make sense.. But it is a major issue..

The main user probably wouldn't. But might have a friend or relative that wants to use the computer, and the user might not trust them with their stuff. So they let them on the guest account.

Then it turns out the OS is the one they should be worrying about.. heh.
I don't care what the OS is. If you're storing everything on the machine, especially a laptop... it's just a matter of time.

Same my guest account is for anybody but me who gets on my main machine at home.
#5
It's reasonable to assume that using a guest account wouldn't wipe out all of your data.

BTW... anyone using "Fanboy" or Fanboi" in their article title does not impress me in the least bit, and tells me a lot about the writer before I even read the story. Which I typically don't.

Yeah.....it's so funny when a user loses all their files, family photos and anything else they cherish. That is so hilarious.
You are pathetic.

#13 It may not be nice, but turnabout IS fair play :)
The smug advertising campaigns trashing Windows with all their viruses, instability and bloatware. And straight Cupertino, no viruses needed Apple will all by itself trash your data. Does Apple even have an official response yet?
Yea it is hilarious!

awiltfong has a point. Apple has peddled a lot of bunk for many years and there is some frustration that has resulted from it.
While no one is really happy about any user losing their data, ever, it is at least ironic that Apple's issues are so basic. I think rather than seeing it as truly "funny" awiltfong is calling it as it is. It is also very interesting that Apple has continually chosen to illustrate faults in others' products, rather than focus on the strengths of their own - of which there may not be as much to base marketing campaigns on.
What I find more than a little sad is how willing so many are to excuse Apple and blame regular users for making use of the guest account in the first place. While it is practice we do not use, or recommend on Windows machines, we do create standard user accounts we identify as "Visitors" or "Kids" - accounts and profiles we can retire as needed.
In the context of profiles and user data, even Windows 7 RTM has a nasty habit of loading a default profile when one logs in too quickly after starting select machines and while a reboot solves it, Apple is not alone in having, if not the same issues, similar ones. We still have a long way to go before any of us gets all of this right.

To me it doesn't matter if it's MS or Apple. To me, I feel bad for those people who lost all their family history. Yes, they should have backups, but not everyone is computer savvy.
Finding entertainment in someones loss is really unacceptable. Can someone tell me how a person who lost years of data, family tree history, children's photo's growing up and all their finances to be hilarious or entertaining?

#16 "Finding entertainment in someones loss is really unacceptable" This is a true statement.
Watching a smug, contemptous organization who's slogan says "It just works" get cought in such a glaring lack of quality control, is.
For some, its time for the pot to call the kettle black.
End of Rant

#2,
Oh, c'mon now. Windows has had it's share of file-destroying issues too. Hell some of them are by design. On purpose!
Like the amazingly stupid idea of saving a users Outlook PST data like 7 levels deep, in a program support folder, and to top it off make one of the upper level folders invisible so it doesn't even show up in a standard search!
