Lenovo vows 'unbelievably' fast Windows 7 boots | |

Lenovo Group Ltd. is staking an early claim to potentially key turf in the Windows 7 gold-rush: the PC vendor boasting the fastest boot-up and shutdown times. ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktop PCs for businesses will boot Windows 7 up to 56% faster than when loading XP or Vista, says Lenovo. Meanwhile, IdeaPad and IdeaCentre consumer PCs certified for "Windows 7 Lenovo Enhanced Experience" will load 33% faster and shutdown 50% faster than non-certified-but-otherwise-identical hardware. | ||

Just buy a USP stick, choose "Speed up my PC", and use sleep. |

I hope they look at some of their *own* apps and fix the performance issues (!) and other problems with those. Thank goodness they at least brought back System Update, rather than just discontinuing it entirely and letting folks fend for themselves on their downloads site.
Some specific steps Lenovo took to fine-tune Windows 7: Fixed the drivers of on-board hardware components that were cumulatively causing massive delays. For instance, Lenovo discovered a driver for a "popular wireless device" had been written to pass worst-condition certification specs and thus would grab 4 MB of continuous memory from the system in 4 KB chunks, Locker said. That added five seconds to the time it took for a PC to go to sleep. Um... in other words, this is not a Windows 7 optimization, but a driver optimization. Which also begs the question (since Windows 7 and Vista essentially share drivers)--why they heck didn't they do this for Vista? 5 seconds to 200 milliseconds for one driver, my word. Glad they finally decided to do something about it... 3 years later! Sheesh. |

Man you are so ever right! When they killed the old System Update with NO replacement for another 2 months, they did a major disservice to their customers. I have over 22,000 of these things out in the field and it made my job considerably harder. And they either need to fix Access Connections right, so it doesn't blow up on users without warning, or just toss the damned thing and go to Intel's provided standard selector. It works fine and is far more reliable. And I wouldn't mind them fixing the problem of the hard drive door/screws falling off of T60's and T61's, either :) |
