Oldog/all, regardless of owning, or using a Zune media player at all, Zune software is by far and hands down, the best media software for PC, or any computer.
Even if I were not a Zune user, I would use the Zune software to manage media. Adding folders to watch across any PC, or network is very powerful and organizing media is powerful and easy. It is the one piece of software Apple clearly copies features from and places into iTunes - only less well. It is very fast, lightweight and really needs to roll up the features and functionality in WMP and emerge as the leading media software Microsoft offers. It's making its way onto Xbox 360 - replacing its marketplace and onto Windows Mobile devices. Whomever wrote the application deserves great respect. Oh and the Zune HD really does rock. It's just neat and is quite unlike any other PMP out there - it just feels that well designed and made and its interface is gutsy and really fast. |

| I don't know if this is a combined installer, but there IS a separate, specific Vista/7 x64 installer available at the zune download page. |

#3, Yes Sir, it is. An increasing number of people are discovering that the Zune software is really great and that it requires no Zune device at all.
There is also a marketplace trial, which allows one to experience what discovering new media in the Zune Marketplace is all about - again, no Zune hardware device, or money are required. Try "Mixed View" and use it to explore and discover media - that within the marketplace and your own. Easy controls at the upper left of the software's content area allow one to quickly toggle between collections - their own, marketplace and protected/unprotected media. It's pretty amazing software and deserves a look. I should mention that on the devices, it also shines and searching and downloading directly to the device from the marketplace is easy and fast. Similarly, one may tag a song playing on the radio and download it directly and since the device, like any CE based device, can multi-task (unlike any iWhatever), downloads and on-device shopping occur as media is being played and without interruption. Yes, there is a large combined installer, but there are also platform specific installers and a native x64 bit version is available. I got my ZuneHD this weekend. Freaking amazing. I upgraded from a Zune 80, and wow... what an upgrade!
At any rate, the Zune software is MUCH better than iTunes, as long as you don't have an iPod. Zune Pass is the best deal out there... all you can eat for $15/month, and you get 10 songs to keep forever each month, even if you cancel your subscription. I actually just connected to WiFi and downloaded dozens of albums wirelessly on my ZuneHD via the Marketplace. Pretty sweet. |

Ok, I just don't get it.
Either this thing has dozens of features hidden away somehow, or it's the VW Bug of Media Players. You guys really dig this thing? |

TL -
I'm absolutely nothing close to a media nut. I never have bugs in my ears or a media player in my pocket other than the iphone I got for $100 to hold me over till next year. However, everybody I know who does care about this kind of stuff says they will be buying one w/i a year... even those with iphones. I'm not saying my "statistical sample" is by any means representative. But until the Zune HD these are people who laughed about Zune and it's software. On a side note, I am anxiously awaiting Zune software on a my phone in a year or so. All you can eat deals are right up my alley if they have a solid library. I could care less to organize and buy tons of music... I'm more of a radio bro. But if I can spend $15 a month to get w/e I want w/e I want that's got some huge value for those of us not getting a funny feeling in our pants over a set of bands we worship. I just want background music most of the time :) |
