Windows 7: 64-bit to go prime time | |

Consumers have had the option of 64-bit Windows computing since the release of Windows XP Professional x64 Edition in May 2005, four years after the release of Windows XP 32-bit. At the end of 2006, Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit versions were released simultaneously. Yet chances are you're currently using a machine that runs the 32-bit version of Windows. This is about to change. Windows 64-bit has started to gain a significant foothold in the past two years as more systems ship with 3GB or more of memory. However, with Windows 7, 64-bit computing is likely to become even more common. | ||

Windows XP 64 was never intended to be a "Consumer oriented OS"; the lack of drivers was the main reason.
With Vista the situation improved a little bit, hopefuly with W7 we will start to see companies like HP offer a complete suite of software allowing full functionalities both for 32 and 64 Bit OSes. As today though I cannot find the drivers allowing both my HP and Canon scanners to be used with a 64 OS. This is the only reason we still have a machine running W7 32. What MS should implement is a "W7 32 ready" and a "W7 64 ready" stickers for hardware peripherals. |

Running win7 64 here in ie8 64.
Been running nothing but 64bit os's sense last year. :) |

Full TWAIN 2.0 support is available using the new TWAINDSM.DLL provided by the TWAIN Working Group. This file is installed by a TWAIN application or driver in the SYSTEM32 directory on native 32-bit Windows systems, or in the SYSWOW64 directory on native 64-bit Windows systems.
TWAIN supports native 64-bit for x64 platforms. The new DSM is required, and should be installed in the Windows SYSTEM32 directory. TWAIN Applications running on 64-bit Windows are strongly encouraged to use DAT_CALLBACK, but this is not required. Epson, HP and Canon each have compatible drivers and software conforming to the Aug, 2008 TWAIN 2.0 spec. | #4: Yes all the above mentioned companies have compatible software for 64 bit OSes but not for many models that were labeled "Vista ready" like our HP 2840. |

If I remember correctly we bought it in second half of 2007. The Canon one in September 2008.
To be honest we bought the Canon because the scanner functionalities in the HP are so unreliable even using a32 bit OS that are basically unusable. It is such a pity how Ms. Fiorina and her thugs destroyed a company that once was the Aston Martin of printers. This post was edited by Fritzly on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 13:54. |
