We approached the packaging for Windows 7 the same way we approached the product – by listening to what our customers told us they wanted: make it a simple clean design, easy to open, and reduce waste.

I'm glad to see that the package now opens conventionally. That will help prevent cracked cases, or cracked minds in my case, caused by the top edge hinge on the Office 2007 retail packaging.

We had a new dev we sent over to do an install of O2K7 at a customers.... the rest of us were covered up.
Decent dev after a couple years, but not good mechanically.
He called a few minutes later and said he could not figure out how to open the box.
We made it a rule - new hires would have another test added to the list: unaided opening of a Vista, and or Office 2007 package. (yes, Google, at the time, would be allowed).
Hmmm... hinge lower left.... and hmmm... a pull tape (red) up top.... Hmmmm ... oh yeah... pull tape... ooooh purdy....
