Microsoft to discontinue MS Money | |

Microsoft plans to stop selling Microsoft Money, its venerable, but not market-leading personal finance program, CNET News has learned. The software maker has been notifying financial institutions and plans to announce the move to customers over the next 24 hours via a posting on its Web site and a notification in the software. Although Microsoft will stop selling the product in at the end of June, it plans to support the product through January 2011. | ||

Another great idea of MS strategists! Much better to keep looisng real money with the Zune.
QuickBooks was not enough, now I will have to swallow Quicken too.... This post was edited by Fritzly on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 16:55. |

@fritzly What are you on??? as far as I know microsoft has made no move to acquire Intuit(company that makes quicken and quickbooks..) this is just an annoucement that they are stopping production of their competing product, and they are working with intuit to make it easier for money users to transition to quicken and become quicken purchasers..

Nothing unfortunately...
Back to the point without Money I will have to move to Quicken and I hate Intuit, its products and the company attitude. Btw you are correct that Microsoft is not going to buy Intuit, when they tried to do it, in the late '90s if I remembered correctly, the usual DOJ stepped in and the operation ended. |

I feel ya #4. We had little choice, now we have NO choice.
I hate Intuit too. And Quicken just seems to get buggier and buggier every release. Must be all those turdlets that seem to multiply yearly that fill up the screen all around your register. Hell, 2006, 2007 and 2008 couldn't even print right! |

Here's to moving my copy of MS Money to a virtual box.
Nothing beats it for personal finance for those who know enough to not crap their pants when they log into Mint.com Cashflow Analysis alone is amazing and it hasn't had any bugs I've come across in 8 years of using it. |

Intuit and overly romantic industry press will be quick to claim victory, but the reality is that the same factors obviating MS Money are more profoundly hazardous to Intuit - namely, the banks and their own software being freely available to account holders.
It is improbable that any one title similar to MS Money, or Quicken will long survive as services overtake software in order of precedence and emphasis. Only that software capable of integrating with external software and services with similar flexibility will survive and no, the browser will not be that platform/client. The browser is dead and the sooner developers and pundits understand this, the better off they will be. Developers had better have begun facing their applications to numerous presentation layers and through the session layer and while they may target the browser also, and as an intermediate step, they had best get on the RIA train and quickly. The transition is going to be faster than all but a few can anticipate. |

Maybe I am part of a small minority here but for me the fact that banks and other institutions offer access to all you data online is not a substitute to a product like Money.
What I like is a central "repository", ON MY COMPUTER, for all my accounts, where I can access all my data at the same time and manuipulate it. |
