we now only have one Mac. Designers have moved over to Windows Vista. We maintain one mini that we turn on to update, then test our SES software in and we shut it back off.
Frankly, we got sick of the two we had. They proved to be the most unreliable machines we had in our shop. One designer would always remark: "it's mad..." as it would randomly restart. Cute way to look at it, I guess. Not very productive, however. Nothing against people who like Macs, I'm just not paying for them and we are by no means cheap. The guys run some serious rigs that cost a mint despite being built in-house. Face it, a top end i7 machine isn't on the low end and top end GPU's are very dear. Software is even more costly and we can't afford to waste it on low-end hardware. Perhaps for single end users, certain Macs offer something I'm missing. I just don't see it and I'm known for running every OS there is just to explore it. I really liked Xandros, for example, but never get over how it just does not compare to the fit and finish of Windows, which we can make purr so sweetly that it is literally a joy to use. We've found we can shape it any way we need to for customers and watching them use it brings us real joy.
