I could spell out the reasons why I prefer OS X to Windows. There are the negative ones (no viruses, no Registry, etc.), but the positive ones matter more. The superior fit-and-finish of OS X isn’t just a matter of aesthetics (though those don’t hurt). As the Apple mantra puts it, design is about the way things work. OS X is a really well- designed tool. It makes it easier for me to do virtually everything I do on a computer. By comparison, I find Windows clunky: Configuring and troubleshooting it are painful, the security thing is a pain, and it’s crashy. To me, it just doesn’t work as well as OS X. And I say this as someone who, until five years ago, had spent his entire computing career using DOS and then Windows. I worked at PC World for nine years. I wrote about Windows 3.0 when it first came out. | ||

Thats weird. I spend most of my time in the browser or watching movies or listening to music (at home) or in VS 2008 or SSMS or other applications (at work). "Hardware specs are fine, but they reflect a relatively minor part of the computing experience." Not true. I recently put a couple of 640GB WD Caviar Black drives in Raid 0 in my work PC. Night and day. No wonder he is bitter it costs 1300$ more for a single CPU quad-core Mac Pro. Being able to buy a really fast PC for a lot less money is really sweet. | I used OS X and Windows simultaneously for 13 months until my mac motherboard died. I do not recall a better "fit and finish" to OS X, just a different and initially cooler looking UI. After the board died and I had to choose what to do next, I realized that for the last couple of months I was doing all my work using Windows based programs running on Parallels with Windows XP Professional. I don't think I'm alone in finding that the OS is of little consequence as long as the programs I need will run on it. My programs ran on Windows. So, now I'm back to using XP on two machines and Vista on two three others. Nothing wrong with OSX. It's just not a big deal. |

I've got no problem with Federal, State. or local government dropping coin to improve performance/productivity. The real money wasters are the countless government employees who just collect paychecks. |
