To the Cognisenti,
Why is it that when I quickly vertically scroll in IE8 on a busy web page I get a herky jerky sensation on the screen? Interestingly, FF and Chrome don't display this behavior natively; nor does FireFox when rendering in the IE engine with IE tab. Any thoughts? The Dog |

| On my system fast scrolling with IE8 is smooth, maybe its a display driver issue. |

platform architecture? CPU MEM MB Vid Card and dvr number OS Display type and res IE8 Add-ons? Also, what sites produce the behavior? Let me know what these are. |

| I doubt it's drivers. Busy pages often have a ton of scripts or other embedded crap. You might want to look into IETab and see if they are doing anything other than providing a container for IE in FF. For instance, the great little RSS reader GreatNews renders with IE but javascript is disabled IIRC. Disabling javascript will speed up a lot of pages at the cost of functionality. |

| Dog: I presume that you also used IE7 compatability mode on the problematic web site. How did that compare with IE8 in default mode? |

Guys,
When I'm on the home page of "techreport", which admittedly has lots of flash animation, and I scroll up and down in IE8 both in the 32bit and 64bit version there is a laggyness. It’s not a big deal but it is noticeable. It doesn’t seem to matter if I’m in compatibility mode or not. FYI, I run a Q6600 processor on a P35 motherboard with 4 Gig of RAM and an 8800GT video card with Vista-64. I am running the NVIDIA driver 182.06 (which I believe is the latest WHQL driver). |

#6 no problems here on that site. I've go an ATI 4670 and a Q6600 on Vista 64.

Guys,
I think I got it figured out! Since I'm getting to be an ol' dog I usually set the default zoom to about 150% of normal zoom. It's when I'm zoomed that IE8 slooooows way down. The effect essentially disappears when I'm zoomed at 100% of normalon a flash page. I think it has to do with the way the IE engine renders the zoomed fonts. Chrome, Safari and Firefox don't have this issue on my machine. |
