On Windows Vista and soon, Windows 7, IE is extremely secure. No other browser features as many layers of protection - both in the context of security features (barriers) and convenience (managing those barriers).
Run it on Vista and or Windows 7 and you'll have the safest browsing experience available.
Do not kid youself or suspend disbelief that Moz/FF, or Chrome/Safari (Webkit) are more secure. They are not - not by a very wide margin.
If some lay person mentions ActiveX and IE in the context of security - counter with the truth - that ActiveX (COM) is only one form of Remote Methoding - others are used, too and all day in other browsers - Java RMI, CORBA, FLASH Remoting are examples - EXCEPT in IE's case, there strong handlers which do not allow any form of COM/Remote Method Invocation to be executed without the user's concent. Period. End of Story!
I would not stake my reputation, or that of my company if I were to conclude differently.
